ADDENDUM
to the PROTOCOL of the tests

of the autonomous electrostimulator of gastrointestinal tract and mucosa - the Electronic Normalizer (TU 9444-014-11555014), designed and produced by Research and Production Association "Ecomed", - in the extreme conditions of high-latitude expedition "Metelitsa" to the South Pole (1995-1996)

Certain difficulty at handling some results of arctic experiment and post-expedition clinical tests represented the complexity of differentiation of the changes, caused by correcting influence of the Electronic Normalizer, and that of functional nature, caused by manifestation of organism adaptability to the extreme environmental conditions.

In this case, especially important was estimation of changes, discussed and adopted by the participants of the experiment on the basis of consensus, taking into account their long experience of high-latitude expeditions with extreme psycho-physiological loads (indicated in notes).

      1. Hematologic study

During the pre-expedition period indices of clinical blood analysis of all the sportswomen were with norm.

After the expedition there were registered changes of absolute values of quantity and correlation of formed blood elements. In particular, certainly increased the number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin content (see drawing 1), that indicated activation of erythropolesis and improvement of respiratory function of blood. Apparently, this is the reflection of the Electronic Normalizer influence and organism adaptation to the strenuous and enduring physical loads in the conditions of low oxygen content in the inhaled air.

Picture 1. Results of hemologic study

Note: The Electronic Normalizer promotes to considerable increase of leukocytes and hemoglobin contents, activates erythropolesis, improves respiratory function of blood.
Mode detailed examination of red blood characteristics didn't reveal, however, statistically valid changes: such indices as average content of erythrocytes, average content and concentration of hemoglobin in them, pathogenicity index in erythrocytes remained at the former level.
Some evidence of blood clotting activation was registered (valid increase of average content of thrombocytes under a slight tendency to increase of their overall quantity).
While blood indices also indicated leukopolesis activation: leukocytes quantity increased from 5.7 thousand/mm3 to 7.8 thousand/mm3 (see Pict. 1). Some changes in formed elements ratio were registered (Picture 1).

Picture 2. Lymphocytes content in blood

Rheologic blood properties, oblique indices of which being erythrocyte sedimentation rate and hematocrit, didn't change considerably.
Picture of clinical blood analysis indices change, thus, testifies activation of hemopolesis, which must be a result of organism adaptation to the expedition conditions (physical load, hypoxia, emotional stress).
Note: The Electronic Normalizer activates clotting function of blood.

      2. Protein metabolism

After the expedition overall blood protein content didn't reveal statistically valid changes. However, its fractional spectrum was slightly distorted on account of globulin quantity decrease from 29g/l to 25 g/l (Pic.3).

Picture 3. Blood protein content

The same fact was proved by the change of albumin-globulin index from 1.47 to 1.5 degree of differences being rather high (P<0.001) , Picture 4.

Picture 4. Proteins and blood urea nitrogen rate

Increase in blood urea nitrogen content in the post-expedition period for 1.2 mmole/l (P<0.001) founds the assumption of prevalence of protein destruction over their recovery, that is usually observed when proteins content in diet is insufficient. This assumption is proved by the expedition journal, saying that the first 4-5 days of the skiing trip the sportswomen ate badly because of the mountain disease.

      3. Fat metabolism

Changes of fat metabolism indices had demonstrable and directional nature. In particular, blood cholesterol content increased after expedition for 0.65 mmole/l (P<0.001), triglycerides content increased for 0.7 mmole/l (P<0.001), Picture 5.

Picture 5. Fat metabolism indices.

It must be connected with the diet peculiarities, aimed at compensation of organism energetic resources after strenuous and enduring physical loads.

Note: The Electronic Normalizer slows down and diminishes augmentation of blood general cholesterol and triglycerides, caused by adaptation to the shifted conditions.

      4. Hormonal status

Hormonal status of the participants was estimated before and after expedition by adrenal glands hormones (hydrocortisone, aldosterone), hypophysis (tryrotropic hormone) and thyroid gland (thyroxin, trilodothyronine).

Analysis of results showed that after expedition aldosterone and hydrocortisone content in blood decreased, mostly hydrocortisone content going down (for 37 %, P<0.01).

Picture 6. Adrenal glands hormones.

Trend of thyroid gland hormones changes was reverse (Picture 7).

Picture 7. Thyroid gland and hypophysis hormone.

In particular, blood concentration of triiodothyronine and tryroxine increased (for 25% and 1% respectfully), that is apparently a result of increase of secretion of hypophysis thyrotropic hormone, regulating hormonal activity of thyroid gland. However, activity of hypophysial - thyroid system didn't exceed the norm, indicating functional nature of hyperthyroidism.

      5. Immune status

Immune status was estimated by blood content of immunoglobulins A, M and G. The results are displayed on picture 8.

Picture 8. Dynamics of immune status.

The cited data show that after expedition content of immunoglobulins A and G decreased (P<0.001), but immunoglobulin M increased, though validity of this change was lower (P<0.05). Accounting for the fact, we can make a conclusion of the prevailing tendency to decrease of general immunity level under enduring influence of extreme factors of the expedition, exceeding subjectively dependent individual limits of adaptation to the modified homeostasis.

Note: The Electronic Normalizer alters speed and level of immunoglobulins changes, resulting in optimization, proportionate to extreme long stress loads.

How to distinguish original products from the fake ones

Original products have laser marking on the box with written title "Electronic normalizer", factory number, little star and the RPA "Ecomed" trade mark.
